AQUAPONIC LEARNING LABORATORY (ALL)
A student built, student run, interdisciplinary facility
Establishing the ALL
From October to the first week of March, members worked to clear out our workspace and build two systems. The club dismantled an SEM machine, computed the system dimensions to build rectangular and octangular bases, cut the boards to size, stained the wood with linseed oil, plumbed the systems, and started growing basil and rearing tilapia, goldfish, and koi.
Presentation about the ALL
The president of the Aquaculture Club, Julia Grenn, was invited to share the club's work at the MSU undergraduate symposium. Her presentation outlines the building process and relevance of this experience. Check out her presentation, which is linked below!
Importance of the ALL
The club's faculty advisor secured a grant that paid for the raw materials and building resources for two aquaponic systems. She lacked a workforce to assemble these systems, so she enlisted the help of the Aquaculture Club. The ALL is a unique resource in that a student-led group built and currently maintains this lab space.
